SCREW CONVEYOR

An Efficient Way To Move Screening, Grit And Dewatered Sludge.

Screw Conveyor

At Adroit, we design and manufacture heavy-duty screw conveyors specifically for the water treatment and wastewater treatment sectors. Over the past 35 years, we have built our reputation as a supplier of high-quality screw conveyors for municipal and industrial customers throughout India. Our screw conveyors provide an enclosed, odour-free and efficient means of transporting solids in any direction.

What Is a Screw Conveyor?

A screw conveyor is a device that is used to move semi-solid and solid waste from one location to another using a rotating helical screw blade within a tube. It provides a continuous, consistent & reliable means of moving material from one point to another without spillage and with minimal odour. There are two common types of screw conveyors:

  • Shafted screw conveyor – designed with a screw blade that is wound around a central shaft; typically used for coarser, drier materials.
  • Shaftless screw conveyor – features an open spiralled design without a central shaft; can transport sticky, stringy or fibrous materials without clogging.

How It Works

  1. A helical screw blade is rotated within a closed tube or an enclosed trough.
  2. The helical screw blade pushes the material forward along the length of the screw with each rotation.
  3. Drive motors drive the screw at one end, while the other end is either free or supported.
  4. The entire unit is designed to completely contain the material, with no possibility of any spillage or odour escaping from the unit.
  5. Screw conveyors can be designed and constructed to be used either horizontally, angled or vertically.

Application

Screw conveyor is used for conveying sludge or solid matter like screenings and grit. It usually consists of a tube containing rotating spiral blade coiled around a shaft, driven at one end and held at the other or a shaftless screw, driven at one end and free at the other.

  • Screens transport – transporting coarse and fine screenings from bar screens or step screens into waste containers or compactors
  • Grit conveyance – transferring grit chamber output for dewatering and disposal
  • Sludge conveyance – transferring dewatered sludge cake from screw presses or centrifuges to the area where sludge will be handled
  • Industrial bulk transfer of semi-solid and bulk waste from food, chemical and industrial (effluent) manufacturing facilities

Application Area

Features

  • All enclosed: containing transport controls, odours and preventing spillage in sensitive areas of the plant
  • Flexible installation: able to be installed/operated horizontally, inclined, or vertically to meet the process flow layout of any plant
  • Handling of hard-to-handle materials: can effectively move sticky, wet, and fibrous types of waste without plugging other types of conveyors
  • Low energy use: an efficient drive system allows businesses to maintain low operating costs
  • Corrosion resistance: made out of SS304 or SS316 stainless steel, allowing long term usage in wet environments
  • Abrasion resistance lining: designed with UHMWPE, HDPE, or Hardox 400 lining to allow for the grit and abrasiveness of material to be transported
  • Low maintenance: simply constructed and durable, with little to no moving parts
  • Customizable: diameter, length, angle and lining for your application’s specific needs

Frequently Asked Questions About Screw Conveyor

What does a screw conveyor do in a wastewater plant?

The function of a screw conveyor is to convey screenings, grit and sludge from their removal site for delivery to waste containers and/or downstream locations in a fully enclosed and odour controlled way.

Screws can be installed at all orientations; therefore, screw conveyors can be installed horizontally, at an angle or vertically depending on the design of your facility.

When considering what lining material to use for conveying grit, Hardox 400 is recommended since it provides excellent abrasive wear resistance to extend the service life of the conveyor.

The diameter and length of our screw conveyor can be 220 to 500 mm in diameter and an overall length of up to 15 m, with exceptions available upon request.
