Screw Conveyor
Enclosed shafted and shaftless screw conveyors that move screenings, grit and dewatered sludge without spillage and with minimal odour.
Clean transport for screenings, grit and sludge cake
Adroit’s Screw Conveyor moves screenings, grit and dewatered sludge from where they are produced to where they are collected. A rotating spiral inside a closed trough or tube pushes the material along, so nothing spills and odour stays contained.
We build screw conveyors in SS 304 or SS 316, from 220 mm to 500 mm diameter and up to 15 m long, with wear liners chosen for the material being conveyed.

Shafted or shaftless
Application
There are two types, and the material decides which one you need.
A shafted screw conveyor has the spiral welded around a central shaft, driven at one end and supported at the other. It suits coarser, drier and free-flowing materials.
A shaftless screw conveyor has an open spiral with no central shaft, driven at one end and free at the other. With no centre shaft for rags and fibres to wrap around, it is well suited to sticky, stringy and fibrous materials such as screenings and sludge cake and can reduce wrapping and clogging tendency.
How a screw conveyor works
Operation
The spiral turns inside a trough or tube. Material fed in at the inlet is pushed forward along the length of the conveyor with each turn and drops out at the discharge. In shaftless conveyors, the spiral runs on a replaceable liner that protects the trough from wear.
Screw conveyors can be installed horizontally, inclined or vertically to suit the plant layout.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ
Shafted or shaftless: which do I need?
Shaftless for screenings, sludge cake and anything stringy or sticky. Shafted for drier, free-flowing material.
Is the conveyor enclosed?
Yes. The closed trough or tube contains odour and prevents spillage.
Can it be installed on an incline?
Yes. Horizontal, inclined and vertical layouts are all possible.
Which liner should I choose?
UHMWPE or HDPE for screenings and sludge. Hardox 400 steel for abrasive grit.
How is a screw conveyor sized?
From the quantity and type of material, its moisture content, the conveying length and the inclination.
