With a commitment to innovation and excellence, Adroit has established itself as a trusted name in the industry.
We take pride in delivering high-performance, durable and cost-effective solutions for the evolving needs of the municipal and industrial water treatment sectors. Here we showcase how the Mechanical Fine Step Screen works, its application, features and more.

What Step Screen is used for
Application
Adroit’s Stepflow® Mechanical Fine Step Screen is used in the preliminary treatment of wastewater to mechanically remove fine waste and solids from the flow, ensuring efficient treatment in the further treatment stages. It removes fine particles with a filtration of 3 mm to 6 mm.
This filtration is further enhanced by carpet formation on the screen’s filtration area — the fine waste sits on the filtration area, forming a carpet of waste that further screens the flow passing through the screen, achieving finer screening.
How Step Screen works
Operation
The Step Screen filtration area is made of fixed and moving lamellae that operate in a stepping motion, lifting the solid waste step by step while allowing the flow to pass through. The movement of the lamellae ensures efficient screening while preventing clogging.
The screening waste is carried upwards along the filtration area to the collection area for onward conveyance by a belt or screw conveyor for processing. The steps are designed to clean themselves through the stepping movement — which is why step screens are also referred to as self-cleaning.
Where Step Screen is deployed
Application areas
Fine screening that protects biological process units, pumps and piping from fine and fibrous solids.
Municipal wastewater treatment plant
Fine screening of incoming sewage to remove small and fibrous solids, protecting downstream biological process units, pumps and piping.
Food processing, pulp & paper industries
Efficient fine screening of process effluent carrying fibres and organic solids in food, pulp and paper operations.
Industrial wastewater treatment plant
Reliable fine screening of industrial wastewater streams to safeguard treatment performance and protect equipment.
ETPs & CETPs
Ensures effective fine screening so Effluent and Common Effluent Treatment Plants run at full capacity and meet statutory requirements.

Frequently asked questions
FAQ
Where are mechanical step screens used?
Step screens are commonly used in municipal wastewater treatment plants, industrial treatment plants — particularly food processing and the paper industry — effluent treatment plants and CETPs.
How do I choose the right screen for my application?
Our team helps you assess your needs based on channel dimensions, flow rate, the type of waste expected and your specific site conditions, to recommend the best solution.
What materials are Adroit’s Step Screen made from?
Our screens are typically constructed from high-grade stainless steel 304 & 316 and other corrosion-resistant materials, ensuring longevity and performance even in challenging conditions.
How often does the screen need maintenance?
Maintenance frequency depends on the specific application and waste load. However, these systems are designed for low-maintenance operation, with regular inspections and occasional greasing being sufficient in most cases.
Is Adroit’s Stepflow® energy-efficient?
Yes. The equipment is designed around low-RPM motor operation, making it energy efficient while ensuring effective waste removal.
What is the lead time for delivery?
Delivery time may vary based on specifications and quantity. Typically, mechanical screen orders are manufactured within 4–6 weeks from manufacturing clearance.
Do you offer after-sales service and support?
Adroit provides comprehensive support — from installation of the equipment at your site through after-sales service, including maintenance support, spare parts and technical assistance.
How does it differ from other fine screens?
Unlike traditional bar screens, Stepflow® offers finer filtration, a self-cleaning mechanism and low energy consumption.
